This 60 metre high waterfall is unique in that visitors can walk behind the cascades, which is an unforgettable experience. Just remember to wear waterproof clothing as the waterfall creates a considerable spray.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nSk\u00f3gafoss waterfall\r\nA little further east along the coast and at the foot of the famous Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull volcano is the breathtaking Sk\u00f3gafoss waterfall. This mighty waterfall plunges 60 metres into the depths and has a width of 25 metres, making for a breathtaking spectacle. You can climb to the top for a breathtaking view, or explore the base to feel the mist of the waterfall. Sk\u00f3gafoss is not only visually stunning, but also rich in legends and history, making it a must-see on our trip. Whether you marvel at the geological formations or listen to the legends surrounding the area, Reynisfjara offers a fascinating experience.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe village of V\u00edk to our accommodation\r\nWe continue our journey through the picturesque village of V\u00edk, which lies beneath the M\u00fdrdalsj\u00f6kull glacier, and drive on to our accommodation. The drive from V\u00edk is a breathtaking journey along the south coast of Iceland. You will cross dramatic black sand deserts and pass fields of green, moss-covered lava. On the route you will see majestic glaciers such as Vatnaj\u00f6kull, the largest glacier in Europe, and the picturesque Skaftafell National Park. You will cross glacial rivers and picturesque landscapes, with the scenery constantly changing. Our accommodation is located directly east of the J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n glacier lagoon, which we will explore in detail on the second day.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nNorthern Lights\r\nWe spend the night in a country hotel, which offers an ideal environment for observing the Northern Lights due to the low light pollution, as there is no town nearby. From September to March, with clear skies and a favourable aurora forecast, we can watch the magic of the Northern Lights directly from the hotel. Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and their appearance cannot be guaranteed."},{"title":"The Realm of the Glacier","content":"Prepare for a day of adventure today as we explore the realm of the great Vatnaj\u00f6kull glacier, the largest glacier in Europe.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe crystal blue ice cave\r\nThe crystal blue ice cave is a remarkable phenomenon. Every winter, new caves are formed due to the constant melting and freezing of the glacier. A trip into an ice cave offers an extraordinary opportunity to capture the blue light that penetrates the glacial ice. You will be enveloped by remarkably deep shades of blue caused by the compression of the ice. During our exploration, we come across deep cracks known as crevasses, amazing, almost cylindrical vertical shafts carved by the meltwater from the glacier\u2019s surface, and remarkable icefalls that look like waterfalls but are made of ice.\r\n\r\nDrive from our hotel to the J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n glacier lagoon. From there we drive off-road in a converted super jeep to the Vatnaj\u00f6kull glacier. During this scenic drive, you will witness the impressive glacier landscape. Upon arrival at the ice cave, you will receive the necessary glacier and safety equipment and our experienced guides will lead you into this magical blue world. Our local guides are highly professional and know their way around ice caves, so you are in good and knowledgeable hands. After exploring the caves for about an hour, we drive back to J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nJ\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n glacier lagoon\r\nWe will also take time to explore the breathtaking glacier lagoon. This 200-metre-deep lake is filled with floating icebergs from the nearby Brei\u00f0amerkurj\u00f6kull glacier, an offshoot of Vatnaj\u00f6kull. The stunning blue water and surreal landscapes make the lake an absolute must-see, offering breathtaking views and unique photo opportunities.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nDiamond Beach\r\nDiamond Beach is a stunning black sand beach just across from J\u00f6kuls\u00e1rl\u00f3n, where icebergs wash ashore from the lagoon. The ice fragments glitter like diamonds on the dark sand, creating an impressive and surreal landscape. It is also a popular spot for photographers and nature lovers.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nReturn to Reykjav\u00edk\r\nWe drive back to Reykjav\u00edk, with an estimated arrival time of around 20:00 \u2013 21:00. The itinerary on both days depends on road conditions and weather.
