As you traverse the narrow lanes of the ancient villages, you\u2019ll notice traditional features such as stone grain stores and wooden balconies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diariodoviajante.pt\/en\/europe-en\/portugal-en\/via-romana-roman-road-peneda-geres-national-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Geira Roman road, Via Nova XVIII<\/a>, you will see the engraved milestone markers. Near the XXIX milestone there are traces of the shelter in which the Portuguese population defended themselves against hostile invasions during the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local wildlife includes the white kite, red-chested bullfinch and the Bocage lizard.
