Krakow is beautiful, a jewel among European cities. People have lived and built here since the 9th century. The historic Old Town district in the heart of Krakow is actually the medieval city that was founded in 1257. Krakow is still the undisputed architectural capital of Poland and is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. The many parks and Planty, the city’s green belt surrounding the city center, make Krakow a beautiful city to visit. The entire stare miasto, the Old Town of Krakow, is enchanting, every street is worth a slow stroll. In its center is the Rynek Glowny, one of the most beautiful market squares in Europe. Kosciol Mariacki, in the north-eastern corner, is a richly decorated cathedral with a 500-year-old carved altar. On the other side of the square stands the lone town hall tower, which was spared when the rest of the building was demolished in 1820. On the Vistula lies Wawel Castle, the most beautifully preserved Renaissance building in Poland. The castle was the royal seat of Poland and is the city’s most important tourist attraction. The grounds consist of the palace, a huge cathedral and a large garden. The royal cathedral dominates the Wawel complex. It was the coronation and burial place of almost all Polish monarchs. It was built at the beginning of the 11th century in the Romanesque style and offers a magnificent view of Krakow from its tower. The beauty of the old architecture, the atmosphere of great culture, art and literature, the charm of the countless cafés, bars and pubs, which are always full of locals and tourists, make this city one of the best travel destinations in the world.
